Gulls Year End Awards

Gulls fans have spoken, and the winners of the year end awards are here!

Connor Darras, a 2019 Hoquiam High School graduate, won the Gulls Goal of the Year award for his 35 yard stunner in Snohomish against the eventual league champions. He received a square pass from Jordan Hamblen, turned to his left, and fired the shot over the Snohomish keeper and into the top left corner of the net. It was his only goal of the season in just two matches played after the high school season.

The Defensive Player of the Year was Victor Corona, a 2015 graduate of Aberdeen High School. Whether he was playing at fullback, centerback, or defensive mid, the versatile Corona was a constant thorn in attackers sides. He started all 14 competitive matches for the Gulls in 2019, and played six different defensive positions along the way.

After leading the Gulls in scoring for the second straight season, Juan Lopez was voted the Attacking Player of the Year. A graduate of Aberdeen High School (2013) and Evergreen State College (2019), Lopez's six goals this season in 8 matches bring his two season total to 16, 10 more than any other player.

Juan Oropeza was the run away winner for the Player of the Year award, winning 95% of the vote. A constant motor in the midfield, Oropeza started 11 of the Gulls' 14 matches in 2019, picking up 3 assists and 3 goals. The Aberdeen High School (2013) and Evergreen State College (2018) graduate was named Man of the Match for the Gulls in 6 of the 11 matches in which he played, including his two goal, one assist performance in the Gulls 4-2 win over ISC Gunners in Issaquah.
