Grays Harbor Gulls FC host Harbor Force on Saturday in the second round of the first ever Washington State Super Cup. This is the fourth meeting between the two clubs in the last two seasons, with the Gulls winning twice and drawing once in the previous three matches.
The two WWPL clubs come into the match off of league losses. The Gulls lost at home 5-1 to Tacoma Narrows, while Harbor lost 3-1 away to Issaquah Gunners. The two teams met the week before, with the Gulls winning 2-0 for their first clean sheet of the season. Juanito Lopez opened the scoring in the first half, and Jonathan Molina tied up the points with a goal late in the match.
Gulls goalkeeper Alexis Garcia has been playing lights out through the first four matches of the season. He has 22 saves thus far, including seven one-on-one saves. Another bright spot for the Gulls is Juanito Lopez, who has three goals in three matches so far this season.
This match is the first ever Washington State Super Cup match, even being played two days before the one-match first round between Issaquah and BeSea FC. The nine-team statewide tournament is a single elimination tournament. The winner of this match will advance to the semifinals, to be played in mid-June.
Kick off is set for 7pm on Saturday the 25th, at Stewart Field.
