Gulls Prepare for Second Season

Updated: Mar 31, 2019

The Gulls celebrate their first ever goal, scored by Juan Oropeza.

The second season of Grays Harbor Gulls FC is just a week away. After hosting three months of open fields, tryouts were held last weekend to select the squad for the upcoming season. With many familiar faces making a return to the squad, the Gulls are optimistic they can again finish in the top half of the table. The Gulls return keeper Alexis Garcia who played in all 12 WWPL matches last season. Another key returner is Alex Pugadelarosa, who scored 4 goals and added 5 assists in 10 WWPL matches last season. Brothers Victor and Cesar Corona return to hold down the center of the park while wingers Aaron Arias and Tony Oropeza add firepower down the flanks.

Intriguing newcomers to the Gulls roster include keeper Rapha Jimenez and attacking Midfielder Irvin Vicente. Jimenez, 22, is originally from Hoquiam, WA but moved to Wenatchee, WA before high school. He lead Wenatchee High School to the state finals his senior season before attending Skagit Valley CC. He spent the past 2 seasons playing for Bellingham United of the Evergreen Premier League.

Vicente, 27, moved from Los Angeles, CA to Westport, WA, and will join the Gulls attack this season. He attended Marymount College, a division 2 school in Palos Verdes, CA. After injuries, he transferred to El Camino College. Vicente brings skill and a wealth of knowledge to his new team.

The Gulls start the season with two home friendlies before starting WWPL play. Club America Nigo Aguila Seattle comes to Aberdeen on April 6th at 3pm, followed by a visit from FC International on April 13th at 4pm. The first league match for the Gulls is Sunday, April 28 at Federal Way FC at 3pm.
